A reminder why I tell stories.

The privilege I have of telling these stories face-to-face with the inmates in our jail is one of the greatest joys of my life. Tonight, shortly after the book was released, I headed to jail for the evening. After we spent time singing, I told a short story about a man who forgave instead of taking justifiable revenge. After I finished praying for the men, a big, silent inmate came over. He never says much and looks intimidating. When I held out my hand to shake it, he made it clear he wasn’t there to shake hands. He came up for a hug. He held me, not awkwardly, but as if I could give him a father’s hug. I hope I did. -Unemployed Idealist

My 200th Podcast

Today marks a milestone of sorts. I recorded podcast number 200. I had so many ideas I was waiting to share on my walk today, but when I got home from picking up milk from our Amish friends my son was waiting with a suggestion. Let’s go on a hike. I made a counter-offer. “I’ll hike with you if you will be a guest on my podcast.” He agreed and within few days our podcast will be posted. Watch for it!

One Step Closer

The fact that you are reading this post marks an amazing level of progress. Lakeside Imagination volumes 1 and 2 are fully proofread. I have most of my plans made for the LA Times Festival of Books, and this website is functional if not polished. And I am very sick of sitting in front of a computer screen. Oh well! Check out the site and send me your feedback below and watch for more widgety things and links coming in the near future.
